Dr Allen Kabagenyi

Dr Allen Kabagenyi is a Demographer with a PhD in Population Studies and over 10 years working experience in the field of population and reproductive health. She is a lecturer, researcher, sampling statistician and trainer as evidenced in the different projects worked on. Allen’s doctoral research sought to understand the explanations for high fertility rates in Uganda and low use of contraception, a degree she pursed at Makerere University School of Statistics and Planning in collaboration with University of Cambridge, UK. Her focus has mainly been in maternal health focusing on HIV/AIDS, family planning, fertility and related reproductive health issues. She is also interested in applied statistics with a focus on the complexities of survey methodology and analysis of survey data.  Significantly, Allen is a University Lecturer at the Department of Population Studies where her tasks involve mentoring, teaching and supervision of both undergraduates and graduate students. She is also an off-campus academic affiliate of the University of Michigan, US and visiting lecturer at the School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics,  Makerere University.

As a demographer she has expertise in research leadership, formulating study designs, data analysis and management. Allen has expertise in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and analysis as demonstrated in the different projects she has undertaken as a consultant, principal investigator (PI), co-PI and team leader on projects supported by London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine/PACE, Johns Hopkins University, UNFPA, CARE International, DHRH-EU, among others. She is KISH fellow under the University of Michigan –Survey methodology program. She is a Demographic and Health Survey fellow as well as Population Communications Fellow. Significant to the qualities mentioned, Allen is very hard working, highly motivated and has good interpersonal, communication and team building skills.
